BIENNALE OF VENICE
THE 12TH INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE EXHIBITION
'PEOPLE MEET IN ARCHITECTURE'
29TH AUGUST > 21ST NOVEMBER 2010
(vernissage 26th, 27th and 28th of august 2010)
After recent years in which the Architecture Biennale has been directed by historians and critics, this year’s exhibition will be directed by an architect, Kazuyo Sejima, and will consist of a series of independent spaces showcasing the work of individual architects who will act as curators of their own work.
“The idea is to help people relate to architecture, help architecture relate to people and help people relate to themselves”.
“Can architecture clarify new values and a new lifestyles of the XXI century? This exhibition – explained Kazuyo Sejima - will be an experience of architecture possibilities, to understand how architecture expresses new ways of living, about an architecture created by different values and approaches. I would be very happy if we could feel where our society will go through this exhibition”.
The exhibition will be hosted in the 29 pavilions at the Biennale Gardens, themselves an interesting collection of 20th century architecture, and the newly-renovated “Palazzo delle Esposizioni”, and in the magnificent industrial complex of “Le Corderie” or Rope Factory, in the Venice Arsenal, with the new Italian Pavilion overlooking the Garden of the “ Vergini”.
There will also be side events such as “Architecture Saturdays” with performances and weekly discussions with critics and architects.
